Photographer Paul Marcellini

Paul Marcellini grew up enjoying the outdoors, notably the Everglades in Southern Florida. His passion for photography and the arts continued to grow throughout college leading him to win the Grand Prize in Outdoor Photographer’s Magical Adventures Photo Contest, which was a trip to Kenya. Marcellini says, “the trip definitely made me realize I wanted to be able to do this for the rest of my life.”

Marcellini uncovers landscapes unaffected by pollution and development to promote conservation and bring awareness to the outdoors in Southern Florida. “Many people are awestruck when I tell them the images in front of them are their own backyard.” Marcellini’s initial inspiration for photography was nature, evolving from wildlife to landscapes. “When I came upon Marc Adamus’s landscapes, there was nothing like them and it really pushed me to seek out dramatic light and compositions. I feel I have come into my own style, but Marc continues to inspire. Others of note would be Art Wolfe, Michael Anderson, and Guy Tal.”

Still of Morning by Paul Marcellini

Still of Morning: A peaceful morning, heavy with fog, silent apart for the drips of dew off of the mangrove trees signifies the beginning of a new day and the opportunity to start over again. “With everything so still and quiet, it gave me time to think and realize what I had been missing. It really reignited the passion for me.” This picture has the power to pull its viewer to the moment it was taken and gives an opportunity to realize what it is that we are missing, whether it is time to reflect, a deep energizing breath of cool air or a calming silence to block out doubts and distress.

Holy Sunstar by Paul Marcellini

Mangrove Magic and Holy Sunstar both show Marcellini’s ability to play and work with different natural lighting to create two completely different personalities for each of the scenes. The colors in the setting sun and building thunderstorm make a major contrast between the bright greens in the foreground and the menacing black cloud casting shadows over the background. Marcellini caught the last light of the day to create a beautiful contrast. As the light of the morning sun bursts through the trees it brings life to the scene untouched by pollution and development.

Moonset Over Pine Everglades: The way that the different colors gradually fade into each other is easy on the eye. It again gives a calming feeling. Yellow golden moon in contrast with the flowing pinks to purples.

Canyon of Wonder by Paul Marcellini

Canyon of Wonder: When I walked to the edge of this canyon in the highlands of Iceland, I could not believe what I was seeing. The number of waterfalls and the color of the river below was incredible. Throw in the abundance of moss and you have one amazing scene. As I returned for sunrise, I was also blessed with a light dusting of snow.

Mossy Fall by Paul Marcellini

Mossy Fall: Laki was a volcano that erupted for 8 months straight in 1783, killing most of Iceland’s livestock and 25% of the human population. It’s lava fields extend for miles and miles and much of the sharp boulders are now covered in moss. The contrast of the fall colors on the small bushes made for a great intimate scene.

Swan Sunrise by Paul Marcellini

Swan Sunrise: One of the few times the sun showed itself on my trip to Iceland, I made the most of it by running out to this small pond nestled in fall colors. Whooper swans continuously flew by and i timed this exposure when they were perfectly placed.

His photos give a sense of hope, of calmness and of life. His patience for the ideal lighting and the exact moment is portrayed in the “perfectness” of his photos. He is again, bringing to light the importance of conservation and environmental awareness with his beautiful photos.”
